A fill from the edge. Not a guess.
The Background Remover starts at the picture's border, learns the backdrop colours there, and removes only what it can reach from the edge. It is a method, not a model — so it runs in a tab, on your device, and a white label on a white jar survives.

Why the label stays
Same colours, same cut-off — one test differs
Source
A white label on a jar, in front of a near-white backdrop.
Colour threshold
Removes every pixel that resembles the backdrop. The label goes with it, along with 7% of the picture.
Fill from the edge
Removes only pixels it can reach from the border. The label is enclosed by the jar, so it stays.
Learn the backdrop
The border strip is sampled and grouped into up to four colours, so two-tone backdrops and soft vignettes are handled.
Fill inward
A 4-connected fill spreads from every border pixel that matches. It stops at the subject's edge and cannot creep along a gradient.
Keep what it cannot reach
Anything the fill never touches stays opaque, whatever its colour. The mask is stored apart from the cutout, so edge sliders never re-run it.
After the mask
Everything here works on the mask, not the pixels
Edge refinement
Smooth, feather and expand or shrink the edge. A hair-detail mode keeps fine strands.
New backgrounds
Transparent, white, black, a colour, a gradient, a blurred copy of the original, or an image of your own.
Shadows
Soft, hard, floating, studio, natural or long, with distance, angle, blur and opacity under your control.
Touch-up brush
Paint back what the fill removed, or erase what it kept, directly on the mask.
Batch queue
Queue several images, process them in turn and download the results together as a ZIP.
Real re-encoding
Export PNG, WebP, JPEG or AVIF. Files are re-encoded, not renamed, and transparency is kept where the format allows it.

Where it works, and where it does not
A fill that follows the backdrop has limits
Works well on
- Product shots on a plain or softly lit backdrop, the way marketplaces ask for them.
- Studio portraits and documents photographed against a wall or a sheet.
- Logos and illustrations on a flat colour.
Needs a hand on
- Busy backgrounds — streets, rooms, foliage. There is no single colour to learn.
- A subject the same colour as its backdrop where it touches the edge: the fill runs into it.
- Holes the edge cannot reach, such as the gap in a mug handle. They stay opaque; the brush clears them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The mask is computed in your browser and the export is encoded there too. The picture never leaves your device.
Is it AI?
No. It is a colour-clustering and flood-fill method. That is why it is fast, needs no model download and gives the same result every time — and why it needs a backdrop it can tell apart from the subject.
Which files can I open?
PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF, up to 20 MB each. You can also paste an image or load one from a link.
A part of my subject was removed. What do I do?
Lower the tolerance first — a lower value removes less. If an area is still missing, paint it back with the brush; the same brush erases anything the fill kept.
Can I get a transparent PNG?
Yes. Transparent is the default backdrop, and PNG, WebP and AVIF keep the transparency. JPEG has no alpha channel, so the transparency is flattened onto a solid colour.
Try it on a product shot.
Drop an image in, move the tolerance, and watch the edge. Nothing leaves the tab.
